29th Annual Stuffed Animal Giveaway

Candy is overrated. Ephemeral, harbinger of extreme highs and lows, fattening. Of course, I’m saying this from the position of a potato-chip-lover who recently found out they have to get two crowns, so am I biased? Undoubtedly. Something that is less subjective is the lasting joy stuffed animals bring. Many of us cling to a plush dog/cat/hedgehog that was given to us in our formative years and can’t bear to part with said toy even as we have children of our own. Nostalgia is a powerful thing — Burton Butler knows this. For the past 28 years Butler, who used to own Montessori schools, has been giving out stuffed animals on Halloween instead of candy. Every year he gathers new and like new toys at various places to hand out to eager trick-or-treaters and he also gets boatloads of donations. Put the candy bowl aside and come check out this unique local marvel on Halloween.

If You Go:
When:
Monday, October 31 from 12 p.m. until toys run out
Where: 31 Lomita Drive, Mill Valley, CA
Cost: Free
