Tiny Homes: This Modern Cottage, Owned by Artists, Tiny Homes: This Modern Cottage, Owned by Artists, Is Full of Sophisticated Details, Including a Cerulean Blue Kitchen This 100 year old cottage nestled among the redwoods was showing its age when it was purchased in 2019 by an artist couple who live primarily in New York City. “It was a ramshackle hodgepodge,” says Andrew Pribuss, a principal at @richardsonpribussarchitects.The architects reworked the floor plan to create space for a mudroom with built-in shelves, cabinets and hooks. Every inch of a tiny home must be well-appointed, so features like these and a built-in desk in the corner of the living room help the cottage to live larger than its square footage. . . . Function and form are married in chic solutions like the Sub-Zero wine fridge concealed within the bank of custom cabinetry in the butler’s pantry. Interior designer @elizabeth.krueger.design covered the walls with a graphic print to enliven the neutral palette. They hired @hollysnowhollenbeck, founder of @hshinteriors, to bring their vision for a more vibrant interior to life. Hollenbeck set a glamorous mood for the powder room, covering the walls in the Wabi Collection from @calicowallpaper. The gold and white wallpaper creates instant drama, enhanced by the vintage 60’s sconces and a custom vanity made from luxurious Calacatta Gold marble. . . . The couple shared with Young their passions for rich color, bold geometry and a flair for the eclectic. They honored many of the architectural details of the home, like in this vanity in the primary bedroom’s dressing area, where they painted the original built-in cabinetry a glossy version of the bedroom ceiling color and fitted with a new marble vanity top. . . . Tour a Modern California Home That Goes All In on Tour a Modern California Home That Goes All In on Dazzling Light Fixtures For this new construction home @tineketriggs used strategic lighting fixtures to highlight the client’s blue-chip art collection. The bronze and satin brass sconces she designed for the entryway evoke the light emanating from the rough texture of a cave. “This space didn’t need a lot of light, because there’s a chandelier hanging above,” she says. “We added these sconces to bring in some drama.” Triggs also designed this narrow console to fit the space, with sculptural brass details at the footing.
