For his own home in Chicago’s Andersonville neig For his own home in Chicago’s Andersonville neighborhood, architect Jean Dufresne designed a bold exterior of salvaged cypress and recycled red aluminum. “Some people love it, and others have said it stands out like a sore thumb,” he says with a laugh. He doesn’t care too much what other people think—he adores his house, the interior of which includes many midcentury modern references. Full tour at the link in our bio.

“I got rid of all the pedestrian light fixtures, “I got rid of all the pedestrian light fixtures,” says designer @tineketriggs says of her approach to this home for a sophisticated bachelor in Sausalito, California. “Then, I peppered in some midcentury finds and new pieces.” The breakfast area includes an Eero Saarinen round table with chairs by @arrmet. A profusion of glass bubbles makes the vintage, midcentury chandelier a cheerful accent. See more of this home at the link in our bio.

For an early 1900s-era red-brick home by the famed For an early 1900s-era red-brick home by the famed architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, the owners wanted an interior that blended modern and historic styles. They brought in architecture firm @morgantewilson for a down-to-the-studs renovation and a rear addition, and @elizabeth.kueger.design for the interiors. The wet bar was designed to be a little jewel box, reminiscent of a speakeasy. The pendant, from @arteriorshome, reflects beautifully off the glass-tile backsplash. The faucet is from @wtrwrks. San Francisco-based designer @tineketriggs created San Francisco-based designer @tineketriggs created this cozy study for a sophisticated bachelor in Sausalito, California. Two built-in bookcases were custom-made, and they define the area as separate from the main living space. One bookshelf holds a TV—attractively hidden away—and the other holds art objects and books. The wallpaper lining the shelves has a whale skeleton pattern, a subtle nod to the San Francisco Bay; the home has a glorious view of the water. Full tour at the link in our bio.

Beginning in the late 1940s, developer Joseph Eich Beginning in the late 1940s, developer Joseph Eichler built close to 11,000 single-family homes in California, mostly in Northern California, including more than 500 in Lucas Valley, where this stunning, well-maintained house is located. The modernist homes were intended to be affordable (Eichler was an advocate of fair housing and opposed racial discrimination), while inviting indoor-outdoor living with walls of glass and atriums that invite in natural light. These homes still live wonderfully, so it’s not surprise that a young family fell in love with this one. Tour the remodel by @florencechouxlivingston at the link in our bio.

This tiny, century-old cottage “a ramshackle hod This tiny, century-old cottage “a ramshackle hodgepodge” when the owners bought it, according to Andrew Pribuss, principal at @richardsonpribussarchitects. He and partner Heidi Richardson worked with the owners, both artists, to remake the tiny space into a home with modern flair. In the new kitchen, the homeowners wanted a very specific cerulean blue for the cabinets and the island. Neutral wood and plaster fills out the rest of the room. Full tour at the link in our bio.

For a late-19th-century greystone home in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood, @hayleymaureendesign’s clients asked her to lead them in a bold direction. For her, that meant bringing in lively colors throughout. The primary bedroom includes a burnt orange grasscloth wallcovering from @schumacher1889 and patterned draperies from @hollyhunt.
