Debbas worked on the space planning and McNab sele Debbas worked on the space planning and McNab selected the furnishings. “Lane was phenomenal at understanding what we needed,” Munson says. Owners, architect and designer all collaborated smoothly, remarkably so given their diverse starting points. While Debbas is a longtime Berkeley architect who came recommended by the realtor, the owners found McNab by searching online; where Debbas is the establishment, she’s the up-and-comer. “She really proved herself,” Munson says.

Connoisseurs of cultural trends, interior designer Connoisseurs of cultural trends, interior designers, Jennifer Kranitz and Aimee Wertepny knew exactly what their client meant when she asked for a “murdered out” powder room in her and her husband’s new Lincoln Park apartment. (The term refers to the black-on-black-on-black look that’s au currant among some car aficionados).

“They loved black and brass, so we created intentional punctuated moments,” Kranitz says, of her clients, who had recently located from New York City. “We identified areas where those elements could be really strong and then backed out from there.”

As an interior designer, Shirley Parks spent a dec As an interior designer, Shirley Parks spent a decade helping clients turn ho-hum homes into architectural gems. But when her children hit middle school, she decided she needed to take a beat and focus on family. But that didn’t mean giving up her passion for interior design. Instead, she shifted into renovating her own homes with the intention of flipping them for profit. “We’re currently on our fourth project house,” says Shirley, who has since re-launched her interior design business. “Now that my kids are older, I’m less stretched for time. Plus, I feel like I’ve earned the equivalent of a master’s degree through my four renovations and I’m excited to pass on what I’ve learned to my clients.” For the full story and more photos, go to the link in our bio. 📸: @christopherstark.

The couple purchased the ‘70s-era house in 2015 and spent the next few years renovating it and building a substantial addition. They brought in San Francisco’s Loczi Design Group to consult on the floor plan and all aspects of the interior.

The result is an airy adobe filled with retro details and saturated colors that nod to the surrounding landscape: the blue and greens of the San Francisco Bay, which is visible from most of the rooms, as well as rust reds and marigolds.

When Kathy Baskett decided to update the interior When Kathy Baskett decided to update the interior of the Sausalito home she shares with her husband, Forest, she was apprehensive. “This house is his baby,” she says. “It’s his happy place.” Forest had worked closely with the late architect Donald Olsen to have the house built in the mid-90s, before he and Kathy were married. The property descends a steep hill on a small point of land, giving the house a lot of privacy as well as a 180-degree view of the bay. The architecture celebrates the view with huge, curved-glass windows throughout. “The structure itself is a feat of engineering,” says Paul Vincent Wiseman, founder and president of San Francisco’s the Wiseman Group, which was brought in to reinvent the interior spaces.
